State Quarterfinals- Special Teams Players of the Week (2013)

Two kickers had phenomenal games kicking. Carter McCauley of Owatonna HS and Alexi Johnson of St Johns University both had record breaking games.  In the Minnesota State Quarterfinals, Carter McCauley tied a state record with 4 field goals in 1 game as well as converting all 3 of his PATs for 15 game points.   Alexi Johnson converted both of his 2 Field Goals to set a new freshman record for St Johns University with 11 FGs in a season.  Alexi is having a great freshman season.  Carter earns our Special Teams Player of the Week honors for the Minnesota State Quarterfinals.  Congrats and good luck in the State Semi Finals!

• Carter McCauley- Owatonna- 3 for 3 PATs and 4 for 4 Field Goals (26, 47, 36 and 20 yards)- 15 points

• Alex Bornschlegl- St. Croix Lutheran- 5 for 5 PATs and 1 Field Goal of 27 yards.- 8 points
•  Alex Trana- Rosemount- 5 for 5 PATs and 1 Field Goal of 25 yards.- 8 points
• Jose Salinas- Roseville- 3 for 3 PATs and 1 Field Goal of 26 yards- 6 points
• Cody Goetz- Eden Prairie- 6 for 6 PATs- 6 points
• Marcus Hahn- Hutchinson- 6 for 7 PATs- 6 points

Charlie Stejskal

Top Punter

• Charlie Stejskal- Maple Lake- 5 punts for 203 yards and 40.6 yards per punt. He also went 4 for 4 on PATs.

Honorable Mention  

• Andrew Ajaluwa- DeLaSalle- 2 punts for 98 yards and a 49 yard average. He also converted 5 of this 6 PATs.
• Justin Freyholtz- Andover- 3 punts for 109 yards and a 36.3 yard average.

Coach Husby also has helped train a number of specialists that live outside of MN.  We'd like to recognize those student's top performances.
This week we had a number of outstanding performances that we had to recognize.

Top Out-Of-State Specialist of the Week

• Josh Weiler- Fargo South HS (ND)- 5 for 5 PATs and 1 Field Goal of 27 yards- 8 points

Alexi Johnson

Top Collegiate Specialist

• Alexi Johnson- St John's University- 2 for 2 PATs and 2 Field Goals of 35 and 19 yards.  Alexi set a new freshman record for SJU with 11 FGs in a season.- 8 points.

12 STFA Kickers Help Team Reach State Tournament

Special Teams Football Academy is happy to announce that 12 of our Varsity Special Teams athletes (Kickers, Punters and Long Snappers) representing 10 Minnesota High School Football programs, have helped their teams reach the High School Football State Tournament.

A few top performances from some of our specialists in their Section Championship game: 

• Elliot Kane of Osseo High School, kicked the game winning 34 yard Field Goal over Prior Lake

• Alex Probert of Andover High School, kicked the game winning PAT in Overtime over Spring Lake Park

Good Luck to the kicking games of: Andover, Apple Valley, Eastview, Delano, Holy Angels, Lakeville North, Maple Grove, Maple Lake, Osseo, and Rochester Lourdes

Section Championship- Special Teams Players of the Week

As the playoffs reach the Section Championship rounds, it's always fun to see what teams continue to stay strong, and what teams make surprise upsets. Last week all remaining Minnesota teams were playing for a berth at State Tournament. There were a lot of tight games and a few over time wins. One kicker in particular had a big game for his team. Louis Hartzog of Chaska (Class 5) spent a lot of time on the field. He hit  3 for 3 on PATs, but hit 2 field goals of 27 & 20 yards for a total of 9 points for his team.  Chaska is having a great season and is currently 10-0 entering the state tournament!  Good luck in your state playoff run.

• Jannik Frederiksen- Wayzata- 6 punts for 238 yards and 39.7 yard average.  5 of those punts were Inside the 20 yard line and furthermore, 3 of those were Inside the 10 yard line.
• Justin Freyholtz- Andover- 2 punts- 92 yards and a 46 yard average.
• Jacques Perra- Roseville- 3 punts for 199 yards and a 39.7 yard average.

Drew Cornwell celebrating after a 45 yard FG make and breaking the All Time Iowa Scoring Kicking Record.

Top Out-Of-State Specialist of the Week

• Drew Cornwell- Iowa City High School (Iowa City, IA)- 3 for 3 PATs and 1 Field Goal of 45 yards.  The 45 yard Field Goal broke the Iowa Scoring Record for kickers.  Also had 2 touchbacks- 6 points
  

Honorable Mention  

• Colt Sirstins Andolsek- Herriman High School (Herriman, UT)- 5 for 5 PATs and 1 Field Goal of 28 yards- 8 points.

Alexi Johnson

Top Collegiate Specialist

• Alexi Johnson- St John's University- 2 for 2 PATs and 2 Field Goals of 18 & 24 yards- 8 points  Alexi is also ranked 2nd in the MIAC conference for kickers with 46 points.
